Betty L. Smith, 96, of Royal Center went home to her to be with her Lord and Savior at 9:20 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2014 at Woodbridge Health Campus.
Born on September 4, 1918 in Cass County, she was the daughter of the late Albert G. and Grace B. (Beckley) Skillen. On July 31, 1938 she married Frank A. Smith. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1993.
She was a 1936 Royal Center High School graduate.
Betty was a retired Secretary at Pioneer School Corporation where she was employed for 17 years. She was also a former Secretary at Camden High School for 13 years.
Betty was a member of Baptist Christian Church in Royal Center where she had also been the church Secretary and the Treasurer of Missions. She also helped with AWANA and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Indiana Teachers Association, Associate member of the Retired Teachers Association of Cass County and the Retired Indiana Public Employees Association.
Betty lived her life for the Lord. Her faith, compassion, dignity and grace were an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
Betty is survived by great nephews, Kevin and Dave Denny both of Columbus, Ohio, cousins, Ruth Ann Conner (Dick), Judy Klakamp (Gary), Peggy Frisbee (Bill), Mary Frances Alexander (Bill), Ron Hawthorne (Roslie), nieces, Marcia Smith Stansbury, Rita Smith Borrelli and neice in law, Carol Smith, special friends, Dave and Beth Wireman of Royal Center and special cousin, Ruth Lutes. She is also survived by all of her loving church family.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Alice Everman, niece, Rose Gibson, cousin, Richard Hawthorne, brothers in law, Robert L. Smith and Gilbert Smith and nephew in law, Jack Smith.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Homes, Royal Center Chapel with Pastor Richard Utterback officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2014 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Royal Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Christian Church.
