Betty Joan Shumbarger

Betty Joan Shumbarger, 74, of Logansport passed away at 12:42 a.m., Wednesday, September 03, 2014 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born on February 7, 1940 in Rensselaer, she was the daughter of late Jesse and Lillian (Dawson) Campbell.  On September 13, 1986 she married Thomas Shumbarger, he survives.

Betty was formerly employed at RCA for 9 years and she had also been an “in home caretaker”.  She and her husband also were foster care parents for 180 children through the years.

She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Shumbarger of Logansport, her children, Gary Cogswell (Joan) of Logansport, Michael J. Cogswell (Gayle) of Logansport, Frank J. Cogswell (Helen) of Logansport, Charles E. Cogswell (Kelley) of Logansport, Coleman “John” Cogswell (Natalie) of Logansport and Theresa K. Cogswell-Morales (Leonardo Morales, Jr.) of Pflugerville, Texas, and brother, Robert Campbell of Logansport.  She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren with 1 on the way.

She was also preceded in death by brother, Donald and William Campbell and sisters, Viola “Ruth” Gohn and Shirley Nyhert.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2014 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Bedford Cemetery in Monon.
