Services for Carl D. Huffman, 83, of Deer Creek, will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday November 13, 2008 at the Grass Creek United Methodist Church.
He died at 11:15 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2008 atA� Logansport Memorial Hospital.A�
Born on November 8, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana, he was the son of the late Thurman and Vera (Lower) Huffman. On December 24, 1943 he married Dorothy Hill and she preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1994. He then married Charlotte L. Myers on April 5, 1997, she survives.
He was a 1943 Graduate of Grass Creek High School and a WWII Navy Veteran.
Carl was also a former member of the Grass Creek United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and where he enjoyed singing in the traveling Good News Quartet" he was a former volunteer fireman for the Grass Creek Fire Dept. and a Caston School Board member for 10 years. Carl was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Galveston.
He was a Carpenter and Foreman for Ed Medland and Son Construction Company in Logansport for 29 years before retiring in 1974 and he was also the Building Services Manager at the National City Bank Building in Logansport for 19 years retiring in 1994.
Survivors include his wife Charlotte L. Huffman of Deer Creek 1 son Alan Huffman and wife Jessica of Brownsburg and 2 daughters Elaine Hartigan and husband Jack of Sparta New Jersey and Rita Ault and husband Carl of Rochester 2 step sons Paul Myers and wife Sharron of Deer Creek and Bob Myers and wife Jo-Ann of Southington Conn. 1 step daughter Jane Myer and husband Tom of Deer Creek 7 Grandchildren 3 Great Grandchildren 7 step Grandchildren and 9 step Great Granchildren.
He was also preceded in death by brothers Joseph Donald and Albert Huffman and sister Helen Huffman.
Pastors Aaron Webb and Warren Purcell will officiate the service and burial with military rites will be conducted at the Grass Creek Cemetery Kewanna.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. 11/12/10 2008 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes Kewanna Chapel and also 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grass Creek United Methodist Church and/or the First Baptist Church in Galveston.
