Charles E. Troutman, 92 of Rochester, passed away at 6:25 p.m., Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Hickory Creek of Rochester.
He was born on March 26, 1918 in Star City, the youngest son of the late Hal P. and Elizabeth (Barnett) Troutman. Charlie was raised on the family farm SW of Kewanna and graduated from Kewanna High School in 1937. He served in the Infantry of the U.S. Army during W.W.II. His unit crossed the English Channel, coming ashore in France a few days after D- Day, and fought their way across Europe until the war ended.
After the war, he attended Ball State (like many G.I.A�A�?A�?A�s) graduating in 1951 with the degree Bachelor of Science in Education and 1952 with his degree in Masters of Arts in Education. He and a friend went to California and soon found a job teaching with the Los Angeles City School District. After 24 years of teaching math in a junior high school, he retired in 1978.
Days of bachelorhood ended in 1973 when he and Betty Dangelo were married. In 1978, they moved to a country home in south Idaho, starting a long retirement filled with days of A�A�?A�A...?tinkeringA�A�?A�i�� in his shop, creating all the inventive projects that came to mind. Many miles were put on their RVA�A�?A�?A�s as they traveled every year from Idaho to Indiana, visiting friends and sightseeing in every state in the union. In 2004 he decided to move back home to Indiana where he enjoyed many days with his family.
Charlie had a keen sense of humor and was a true loyal friend. He was a life member of the V.F.W.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Betty Troutman of Rochester, nephews, Terry Troutman (Dar) of Lake Bruce and Tim Troutman of Leiters Ford, nieces, Trudy Haney of Akron, Nancy Werner of Bloomington, Barbara Pell (Merle) of Noblesville and Marigene Stone (Steve) of Monroe, MI., 13 great nieces and nephews, 19 great, great nieces and nephews and 2 great, great, great nephews. He is also survived by step-sons, Jack Dangelo (Debby) of Corona Del Mar, CA. and Jim Dangelo (Selmira) of Torrance, CA. and 2 grandsons.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Dennis, Omar and twin brother, Joe Troutman and sister, Mary Troutman.
Friends may call from 1:00- 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna chapel. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. with Steve Stone officiating and burial with military rites will follow at Barnett Cemetery.
