Clyde J. Courtice

Dr. Clyde J. Courtice, 98, Monticello, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012, in Monticello Assisted Living and HealthCare. Born July 9, 1913, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, he was the son of Dr. Oliver J. Courtice and Irene J. Wiswall. He was a graduate of Evansville College and Northwestern University where he earned his DDS degree. He was married August 17, 1940, in Hammond to Edna P. Dunlop, who preceded in death April 2, 2009. Clyde practiced dentistry with his father in Hammond and Cedar Lake, IN. He retired in 1984 after 46 years. Clyde was a member of The American Legion Post 261 and the Cedar Lake LIONS Club. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and earned the rank of Major in the Dental Corps. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and WWII Victory Medal. Clyde, better known by his friends as 'Doc,' was an avid golfer, winning several club championships at Youche Country Club, Crown Point, and Seven Springs Golf & Country Club in New Port Richey, FL. He also earned two holes-in-one during his lifetime. He loved fishing and took annual fishing trips with his family for several years to Canada, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing with his son, and he spent time fishing the ponds at his residence in Seven Springs, Florida. Surviving are son Brock and wife, Donna, Royal Center; granddaughter Marcia Cline and husband Jay, Ossian; nieces Courtney Courtice, Cydney Flower , and Pat Johnson; nephew Robert Keefer and several great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by brother, Thornton Courtice. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center. Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pastors Jay and Marcia Cline will officiate and burial, with full military rites, will be in Kistler Cemetery.
