Earl “Bruce” Gallaher, 82, of Burnettsville, passed away 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by family.
Born the oldest of five children on November 26, 1932 at home in Cass County, he was the son of the late William M. and Ruth Leona (Myers) Gallaher. In 1952, he married A. Faith (McCall) Gallaher. In 1999, he married Judy K. (Smith-Cosgray) Gallaher.
His first employment was on his uncle’s farm. He worked on the railroad and remembers some pranks that they played. He was a farmer for the most part of his adulthood. During the winters, he worked at RCA and Harnischfeger/Chemtron, both in Monticello. He owned a fuel oil tanker and hauled for Standard Oil/Overway Petroleum in Logansport. He also held a private pilot’s license. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling to warmer climates for the winter months. He enjoyed playing cards, especially when he was winning. He met his wife, Judy, while participating in a horseshoe league. He had a love for antique cars, trucks and of course, tractors. He also enjoyed bluegrass music.
Bruce was a member of Shriner’s International, Logansport Shrine Club, Tipton Lodge No. 32 of Logansport, White County Shrine Club, Father’s Auxiliary Department of Indiana Veterans of Foreign War and served nine years in the Indiana National Guard. He was also a member of Bell Center Bible Church.
He is survived by his wife, Judy K. Gallaher of Burnettsville, two sons, Steven B. Gallaher (Rhonda) and Dennis W. Gallaher (Barb), both of the Lake Cicott area, two daughters, Linda C. Steele of Benton, Arkansas and Sharon D. Harrison (Wilferd) of Akron, Indiana, two step-sons, Shannon M. Smith (companion, Ronda) of Indianapolis and Shane L. Smith (Summer) of Plainfield, IN., grandchildren, Jasmine of Indianapolis, Brooke of Higginson, AR., Wendell B. “Bub” of Crossett, AR., Joshua of Columbus, OH., Kayla and Adam, both of Akron, IN. and step-grandchildren, Jenna and Jayson of Plainfield, IN., Donna of Kokomo and Sara of Logansport. He is also survived by two brothers, Burt Gallaher (Ruthann) of Logansport and Mike Gallaher (Sue) of Mansfield, TX., sister, Kathryn M. Nethercutt-Norlin of Logansport, sister-in-law, Erika Gallaher of Lake Cicott and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was also preceded in death by brother, William M. Gallaher.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center, IN. 46978. Pastor’s Ed Roller, Paul Scott and Justin Uselton will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2015 at the funeral home.
Burial with Military Rites will be at Bell Center Cemetery.
