Edwin Lee Stangle

Monticello

Edwin Lee Stangle, 88, of Monticello has completed his harvest and his battle with dementia at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at home.

Born on January 2, 1933 in Cass County, he was the son of the late Cecil and Dorothy (Watson) Stangle.

He was a 1951 Camden High School graduate.

On October 7, 1955 he married Bette Lou Nethercutt and from their love of 65 years they had 4 daughters, Brenda (John) Eisele of Rensselaer, Carmen (Allen) Gilbert of Lafayette, Terri (Cary) Davis of Monticello and Kim (Joe) Smith of Flora.

Edwin was a U.S. Army veteran served in the Korean War.  After serving his country he returned home and was a farmer all his life.  After selling his farm in 2005 he made miniature farm machinery and gifted them to people.   He and Bette loved going to the area high school boys and girls basketball, baseball and volleyball games.  He was a member of Bell Center Bible Church which he and Bette faithfully attended.

He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, the last great grandchild being born on the day he passed away.  He loved them all and was a hero to everyone.

He was also preceded in death by brother, David Stangle and sister, Joan Piercy.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 17, 2021 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center with Pastor Ed Roller officiating.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial with military rites will be performed at Bell Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Gideons International and/or Bell Center Bible Church.
