Elsie Master

August 23, 1919 — April 22, 2010

Elsie Master, 90, of Rochester, Indiana passed away at 7:06 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2010 at The Villages Regional Hospital in Lady Lake, Florida.
Born August 23, 1919 in Fulton County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late William B. & Tina (Myers) Wharton. On October 28, 1939 she was married to Harvey E. Turner in Fulton County and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1993. She married Orlyn E. Master, November 2, 1999 in the Garden of Gesthemne, in Jeruselem by Ron Prilliman her minister/pastor for many, many years.
She was a member of the 1937 graduating class at Kewanna High School. Elsie worked for several years at the Fulton County Treasurers Office and she retired from Fulton County REMC. Summers were busy with raising strawberries, and a large garden for canning and freezing. She was a 4-H Leader helping members, and her daughters, with prize winning 4-H projects.
Elsie was a Life Member of the Fulton County Historical Museum since 1972 and was a founding member on the Board of Directors, assisting with the planning and development of the building of the museum in 1986. For many years she was a volunteer for the annual Trail of Courage and seamstress for numerous costumes. She greatly enjoyed dancing with the Heymaker Dance Group who toured with highly acclaimed performances!
A member of Reiter Club, she enjoyed monthly dinner meeting with their friends and spouses since 1948.
Early retirement was spent traveling with her youngest daughter, Sandra May, and friends to Spain, Portgual, with tours of Itlay, Germany, and Lichtenstein and within the U.S. Some of her favorite places to revisit were the Botanical Gardens in Mendecino, CA and Big Thompson Canyon, CO. Later years she traveled with Orlyn to 351st Bomber Squad Reunions to England, Tuscon, AZ., Savannah, GA, San Diego, Ca., and Branson, Missouri. With Orlyn as pilot and Elsie as navigator they also enjoyed flying his Piper Cherokee many times.
Her membership in the Kewanna Church of Christ was the center of her faith, and strength in life.
She is survived by her husband, Orlyn, two daughters Susan E. Turner, Logansport and Sandra May Stevens, Lady Lake, Florida, grandsons, Brian E. (Lori) Van Duyne, Shane E. Van Duyne; and Michael G. (Tina) Paschen and great grandchildren, Shayla Van Duyne, Skylar Van Duyne, Chase Van Duyne, Noah Van Duyne, McKenzie Paschen and Jacob Paschen.
Step-children include Greg (Dee) Master, Houston, Tx., Geofrey (Catherine) Master, Bethesda, Md., Dr. Gynette (Karl Siebert) Master,Houston, TX., and Gizelle Master, Irving, TX., Step-grandchildren, Stuart Master, Sarah (Pete) Rothan, and John, David, and Elizabeth Master.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Marion Wharton, Ruth Madsen, Harlan Wharton and Esther Lake, and one great grandson, Samuel Paschen.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Kewanna Church of Christ in Kewanna.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, Kewanna Chapel.
Pastors Scott Meneeley and Ron Prilliman will officiate and burial will be at Citizens I.O.O.F. cemetery in Kewanna.
