Everett Layer, 80, of Royal Center passed away peacefully at 4:25 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2014 at The Arbor in Logansport.
Born February 1, 1934 in Cass County, he was the son of the late Grover and Beulah (DeWitt) Layer. On October 25, 1952, he married Gillea J. Nethercutt. She survives.
He was a 1952 Royal Center High School graduate.
Everett served in the Indiana National Guard and Army Reserves.
He retired after 15 years from the Logansport State Hospital and he also was a dairy farmer for over 20 years.
He was a charter member of Bell Center Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gillea J. Layer of Royal Center, son, David H. Layer (Beth) of Walkerton, daughters, Rita J. Liming (Rodney) of Royal Center, Cathy A. James (Scott) of Rensselaer and Barbara K. Knepper (Thomas) of Logansport, and sister, Ellen Sell (Victor) of Royal Center. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren with 2 more expecting.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Lee and Ernest Layer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center chapel and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Bell Center Bible Church with Pastor Edward Roller officiating.
Burial will be at Bell Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or Bell Center Bible Church.
