Fred W. Carlson, 79, of Royal Center passed away at 10:10 a.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at his home.
Born on September 24, 1941 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Charles and Marie (Shultz) Carlson.
Fred was a 1959 Burnettsville High School graduate and Valedictorian of his class.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served from 1963 to 1965 including active duty in Vietnam.
On August 17, 1968 he married Sarah Adkinson at Palo Methodist Church in Palo, Michigan.
Fred worked at RCA in Monticello for over 20 years until the plant closed. He also worked for Angle Trucking for over 15 years. Fred lived in the Burnettsville and Royal Center area all his life and farmed west of Royal Center for 40 years.
He and Sarah loved to garden and did that together for 52 years. They loved to can and freeze fruits and vegetables. They also enjoyed traveling including trips to the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Carlson of Royal Center, sons, Brian Carlson (Kim) of Lafayette and Greg Carlson (Kim) of Westfield, grandchildren, Lauren, Mackenzie and Gamble, sisters, Janice Whybrew (Lane) of Winamac and Bonnie Holder (Melvin) of Elida, Ohio and brother in law, David Adkinson (Carol) of Palo, Michigan. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Joan Carlson and niece, Karen Adkinson.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center.
Services will be private.
Burial will be at Star City West Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Caley United Methodist Church.
