Fred L. Gardner, 74, North Canton, Ohio passed away Wednesday, May 5,2010, at Aultman Hospital, Canton, Ohio, surrounded by family.
Fred was born Dec. 28, 1935, in Logansport, to the late Robert D. and Crystal L. Jacobs Gardner.
In 1955, he graduated from Logansport High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959.
He was a machinist who worked at Logan Machine and General Tire before moving to Ohio. In 1978, he founded The Machine Shop in Massillon, Ohio, and owned and operated it until his retirement.
Fred is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen L. Straw Gardner, Lake Cicott; two sons and their wives Robert D. and Carolyn (Triozzi) Gardner, State College, Pa., and Eric R. and Angela (Grisez) Gardner, Gloucester, Va.; and four grandchildren, who were very special to him.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert J. Gardner, and his sister Patricia Willing.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., in the Mt. Hope Cemetery Chapel, with military rites.
