Gail Ann Hughel, 76, of Westfield, passed away at 10:43 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Kokomo. Born on December 28, 1947, in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Lorraine (Owens) Griffin.
Gail, affectionately known as “GG,” was a retired underwriter for International Medical Group. She earned her BA from Ball State University. Gail had a passion for reading, sudoku, dogs, crafts, and John Denver. She cherished spending time with her family and friends. Known for her wit and excellent conversational skills, she loved overnights with her grandkids, in cahoots with Sherry (Patty’s mom). Gail enjoyed girl time with her sister, Jan, and cousins, Linda and Karen, fondly referred to as “The Four Musketeers.” She often reminisced about her special trip to Ireland and visits to her sister and the Koester family. Gail maintained close relationships with friends over the years, holding a special place in their hearts.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Hughel (Patty), and their children, Ali and Griffin, all of Westfield; her sister, Jan Koester (Rick) of Oregon; and cousins, Karen Pflughaupt (Dale) and Linda Eilers (Tom) of Chesterton, along with several dear friends. Gail was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Fred Minifie, her sister, Joyce Griffin, and her step-mother Ruth Griffin.
In accordance with Gail’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service at this time. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL, in the spring, beside her parents and sister Joyce.
