A Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald J. Nies, 86, of Royal Center will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2008 at All Saints Catholic Church.A�A�

He died at 3:50 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Chase Center in Logansport.A�A�

Born December 20, 1921 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Mabel (Gerlach) Nies.A� On February 8, 1947 he married Elsie M. Small and she preceded him in death on August 19, 1987.A�A�

Gerald was a 1940 Lucerne High School Graduate, he was a Medic in U.S. Army serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII was with the battalion that liberated the Phillipines.A� Gerald was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, he enjoyed fishing, watching softball and working on his farm.A� He was also an avid Indiana basketball fan and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.A�A�

He was a Machinist retirng from General Tire after 35 years.A�A�

Survivors include daughter, Mary Downhour of Royal Center, son, Ron Nies of Royal Center, 4 grandchildren, Billy Nies and Laura Nies of Texas, Chrissy Downhour of Royal Center and Angie Downhour of Ft. Wayne, daugter-in-law, Mary Lou Mason of Texas, sister-in-laws, Betty Nies and Mary Ellen Nies both of Royal Center, Peg Nies and Dorothy Thompson both of Logansport.A� He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.A�A�

He was also preceded in death by 1 son James William, 4 brothers, Basil, George, Keith and Walter Nies and sister Dorothy Renkenberger.A�A�

Burial with Military Rites will be performed at South St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pulaski.A�A�
