Gerald "Gene" Miller

July 12, 1928 — September 17, 2014

Gerald “Gene” Miller, 86 of Grass Creek passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born on July 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Edwin “Ted” and Hazel (Shaw) Miller.  On April 1, 1951 he married Jeanne Hizer.  She preceded him in death on December 1, 2013.

Gene was a 1946 Royal Center High School graduate.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War.

Gene was a lifelong dairy farmer.

He attended Hillcrest Baptist Church in Rochester.  Gene was a member of the VFW in Kewanna and he enjoyed wintering in Texas and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Catherine Hassenplug (Daniel) of Grass Creek, Marilyn Mock (Bruce) of Rockwall, Texas and Kelly Bragg (Brian) of Frankfort, brother, Thomas Miller (Dorothy) of Plymouth, sister, Judy DePoy (Kenneth) of Fulton, sister in law, Norma Miller of Kewanna.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Brian Hassenplug (Melinda), Brad Hassenplug (Rebecca), Eric Hassenplug (Amanda), Alyssa, Dustin and Brody Mock and Garen, Kelsey, Catey and Courtney Bragg and 7 great grandchildren, Ethan, Adrian, Audrey and Olivia Hassenplug and Jordan, Dylan and Melanie Hollar.

Gene was also preceded in death by brothers, Fritz and Walter “Buss” Miller and sister, Dorothy Mae Miller.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna with Pastor Ed Taylor and Dr. James Gabhart officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the funeral home and also one hour before the time of service on Sunday.

Burial with military rites will be at Grass Creek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
