Gerald “Getts” Hewitt, 88, of Burnettsville, Indiana passed away peacefully on Thursday, the 15th of October at 3:51 p.m. at the Bloom Senior Living Center in Kokomo.
He was born in Winamac, Indiana, on September 20, 1932 to Chester and Luetta Reinholt Hewitt. He graduated from Logansport High School in 1951. Gerald married Kathleen Sue “Katie” Boatman at the Wheatland Avenue Methodist Church on August 1, 1954. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church earlier in life and was more recently a member of Gospel Light Mission Church in Kokomo, Indiana.
Gerald and Katie lovingly raised three daughters. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family unconditionally.
Getts played football, basketball and baseball for LHS. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traditional archery and caring for his many dogs over the years.
Gerald retired from Logansport City Police Department.
He is survived by daughters Karen (Steve Quillen) of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Suze (Michael Reynolds) of Kokomo, Indiana. Siblings, Ethel Campbell, Dallas Hewitt, and Shirley Hallam ( Jack), Sister-in-law Becky Scott Hewitt. Grandchildren, Stephanie and Andy Kalinoski, Charlotte, NC, Michael and Shannon Quillen, Chesapeake, VA, Katie Reynolds, Kokomo, Michael and Mel Reynolds, Fisher’s, IN, and Taylor Reynolds, Kokomo. Great-grandchildren, Mia, Collin, Trevor, Harrison and Matthew. As well as, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Katie, daughter Brenda (Dave Sanders), and brothers Harold Reinholt (Marlene) and Jack Hewitt. Sister-in-law, Carol Moss Hewitt and brother-in-law Charles Campbell.
Calling hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Marocco Chapel, 119 E. Market St., Logansport with a service immediately following at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Terry Russell officiating.
Private Graveside services will be on Monday at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
