Geraldine "Jerry" (Wright) Laing

Geraldine “Jerry” Laing, 90, of Logansport passed away peacefully at 6:00 a.m., Monday, September 21, 2020 at her home.

Born on May 7, 1930 in Center Point, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Lorene Wright.

She was a 1948 Wiley High School graduate in Terre Haute and then went on to nurses training at Union Hospital and graduated from Indiana State University in 1951.

In 1956 she married James Laing, they were married for over 56 years.  He preceded her in death on April 3, 2012.

Jerry began her nursing career after graduation in 1951.  In 1970 she continued her nursing career in Logansport at St. Joseph’s Hospital.   Following St Joseph’s, Jerry went to work for the Cass County Health Department.  She finished her nursing career at the Logansport State Hospital where she retired  in 1994.

Jerry had many hobbies including reading, crossword puzzles and crocheting.   She loved traveling to see family in California, Florida and Texas.

Jerry was a member of the VFW, Elkettes and the American Legion.  She enjoyed playing Euchre, Bridge and Poker.

Previously she was the President of her HOA and loved her community.  She was a caretaker to many family members and friends over the years.

Survivors include her daughters, Saundra Coffman of Walkerton, Karla Douglass (Scott) of Coral Springs, Florida, Jennifer Zimmer (Randy) of Winamac and Laura Palitz (Mike) of Newport Beach, California, and a sister, Shirley Larrison of Texas.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by sons, Scott Laing and Mark Laing, grandson in law Raymond Caraballo and grandson Bradley Coffman.

Visitation is from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 26, 2020, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 p.m., at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Marocco Chapel, 119 E. Market St., Logansport.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Logansport Chapter.
