Harold L. Gray

July 22, 1937 — January 20, 2014

Harold Gray, 76 of Royal Center passed away unexpectedly at 5:54 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born July 22, 1937 in Cass County, he was the son of the late Ballard and Huldah (Gordon) Gray. On December 20, 1957 he married Phyllis Lind, she survives.

Harold was a 1955 Royal Center High School graduate and attended Purdue University.

He was an active member of Center Presbyterian Church in Royal Center where he had served as an elder and church treasurer. Harold was currently serving as teacher of the adult Sunday school class.

One of Mr. Gray's talents was presenting programs portraying biblical characters. After the programs, he loved socializing with the people.

His hobbies included woodworking, golf, bowling and gardening. He was an active member of the Royal Center Lion's Club where he was currently treasurer of the organization.

Harold enjoyed teaching people how to make Iris Folded greeting cards. He worked with a group from church making cards for the shut-ins of the church.

He and his wife Phyllis loved hosting a cider making party at the end of apple season and enjoyed bringing together Center and Bethlehem churches for the event.

Harold formerly worked at Retail Credit Company in Logansport, Community State Bank in Royal Center, State and Savings Bank in Monticello (which is now Wells Fargo) and People Savings and Loan in Monticello. He also formerly served as treasurer of Presbytery of Wabash Valley at the Geneva Center in Rochester.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and was a member of North Central Indiana Officials Association. He had been a Cross Country and Track and Field Starter for more than 50 years and basketball official for over 25 years.

He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events as well as all sporting events at Pioneer High School where he enjoyed working with the youth. Harold also enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Gray of Royal Center, son, Terry Gray and wife Shari of Fort Collins, CO., daughter, Rowena Danielson and husband David of Vancouver, WA., daughter in law, Catherine Gray of Carmel, brother, Leonard Gray and wife Sue of Cibolo, TX., sisters in law, Joan Gray of Columbia City and Myra Gray of Logansport and brother in law, Lowell Morgan of Galveston. He was also survived by 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Gray, Ariel Pennington (Brian), Rebekah Gray, Rachel Colo (Eliseo) and Anastasia Gray, all of Fort Collins, CO., Brian Gray, Colin Gray and Allison Gray, all of Carmel, Amanda Peabody (Jason) of New, Boston, MI. and Jason Danielson (Takako) of Atsugi, Japan and one great granddaughter, Lisa Danielson of Japan.

He was also preceded in death by son, Richard Gray, 2 brothers, Robert and Eugene Gray and sister, Helen Morgan.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Harrison Metzger Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center with Pastor David Smith officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Pisgah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Center Presbyterian Church.
