Harris D. Lease, 88 of Grass Creek, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2011 at his residence.
Born on April 4, 1922 in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Henry and Velma (Harris) Lease. On November 17, 1945 he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Hershey, she survives.
Harris was a U.S. Army Air-Corp Veteran serving in the China-Burma-India Theater during WWII. He was a member of the 305th group of 323rd squadron of the U.S. Air Force.
He was a 1940 Grass Creek High School graduate and also a graduate of Burroughs Office Machine and Typewriting School where he continued to work after graduation in Chicago. He then went to work for HJ Lease Office Machines in Rochester as a Repair Man. He was also a lifelong farmer.
Harris formerly served as a Fulton County Commissioner, Wayne Township Trustee, served on the Wayne Township Advisory Board and ASCS County Committee and was a former member of the Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was a life time member of CBI Association and a member of Grass Creek United Methodist Church, a 50 year member and Past Master of the Fulton Masonic Lodge 665, and he was also a member of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing softball and wintering in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lease of Grass Creek, daughter, Lavonne Sue Sailors and husband, Daniel of Kewanna, 3 grandchildren, Christopher Sailors and wife, Debra, Timothy Sailors and wife, Nancy and Stephanie Herd and husband, Jason and 7 great grandchildren, Christen, Carrie, Emily and Ethan Sailors, Keaton Ferverda, Noah and London Herd.
He is also preceded in death by 2 sons, Douglas Harris Lease and Larry Lee Lease and 4 brothers, Harry, Howard, Harold and Homer Lease and one sister, Joyce Martin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel where there will also be a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 28, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Russell officiating.
Burial will be at Grass Creek Cemetery.
