Helen L. Petrie

Helen L. Petrie, 86, of Las Vegas formerly of Logansport departed this earth at 5:15 a.m., Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas.
Born on October 16, 1923 in Grass Creek, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. and Clara (Costello) Hirsch. October 6, 1948 she married John F. Petrie in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Logansport and he preceded her in death on November 4, 1988.
She attended St. Joseph Elementary School and was a 1941 Logansport High School graduate. She attended St. Theresa School of Nursing in Minnesota and she graduated from Purdue University in 1945 with one of the first business degrees before the Krannert School of Business. While at Purdue she got to meet Amelia Earhart.
Helen worked as an accountant for her father Henry at Hirsch Grain Elevators in Clymers and Brookston. She had also formerly owned and operated PetrieA�A�?A�?A�s Tax Service for many years and had been a real estate broker.
Helen was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and was active in civic and philanthropic organizations throughout her life. She was a member and former treasurer of Kappa Kappa Kappa, a member of the Altrusa Group, Infant Jesus of Prague Study Club, and Logansport Art Association. Helen was also a Logansport Park board member and had received the John Tipton Good Citizen Award in 1979. She was also instrumental in saving the Memorial Home for demolition where she also served on the Memorial Home Board as President until 2007.
Survivors include her children, John H. Petrie of Fishers, George A�A�?A�A...?TonyA�A�?A�i�� Petrie and wife Tina of Las Vegas and Michael Petrie and wife Jody of Carmel, Claranna Petrie and husband Robert Negrete of Las Vegas and Conradine A�A�?A�A...?ConnieA�A�?A�i��Riedel and husband Rick of Knoxville, Tennessee, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, sister in law, Anna Petrie of Logansport and Evelyn Dietze and husband Herman of Monticello.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Rosella Norris and Madonna Kuntz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2010 at All Saints Catholic Church in Logansport officiated by Father Mike McKinney.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 9, 2010 at Marocco Funeral Chapel where there will be a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Logansport.
