James A. Kistler, 91, of Logansport, passed away at 4:23 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
Born on July 4, 1925 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Chester T. and Catherine M. (Newmyer) Kistler.
He attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School and was a Logansport High School graduate.
James was U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII where he also received the Bronze Star.
On December 11, 1970, he married Betty L. LaVine who survives.
James retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad where he worked for over 40 years. His last 12 years of service was as a Union Representative.
He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, VFW Post #3790, a 50 year member of the American Legion Post #60, and the Brotherhood of the Railroad Signalmen.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Kistler of Logansport, son, Daniel R. LaVine (Nora) of Bluffton, daughter, Carmie Anderson of Liberty Center, and brother, Richard N. Kistler of Logansport. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granchildren.
He was also preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Mary Pumphrey and brothers, Jack Kistler and Thomas Kistler, and grandson's Nathan LaVine and Andy Anderson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Dominic Petan officiating.
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2016 at Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel.
Burial with Military Rites will be conducted at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
