James L. Laing

James L. Laing, 81, of Logansport passed away at 5:20 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor.

Born on November 11, 1930 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Harry and Julia (Marter) Laing. On September 17, 1956 he married Geraldine 'Jerry' M. Wright, she survives.

Jim was a 1948 Logansport High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a former brakeman and freight conductor for Conrail Railroad in Logansport retiring in 1975 after 28 years.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine 'Jerry' Laing of Logansport, his daughters, Saundra Coffman, Walkerton, Karla Douglass (Scott) of Coral Springs, Florida, Jennifer Zimmer (Randy) of Winamac and Laura Palitz (Mike) of Newport Beach, California, brother, Michael Laing (Sue) of Norman, Oklahoma and sister-law, Sheila Laing of Logansport. Jim is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He is also preceded in death by sons, Scott Laing and Mark Laing, sister, Peg Alderson and brother, Thomas Laing.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2012 at Marocco- Rans Funeral Chapel with Father Donald Eder officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the funeral home where there will be at Scripture Service at 3:30 p.m.

Burial with military rites will be performed at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
