James Monroe Stevens, 91, of Lucerne passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Born on March 3, 1933 in Lucerne, he was the son of the late Wesley and Edna (Strong) Stevens.
He was a 1952 Lucerne High School graduate and was proud to have lead the county in points his senior year of the basketball season.
Jim was a proud U.S. Army veteran.
On August 9, 1953 he married Rethel May Sell. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2014.
Jim retired in 1995 from Terra and Sohigro Fertilizer Company in Idaville after 26 years.
He was a member of the Lucerne Lions Club, Logansport Moose Lodge, Royal Center Masonic Lodge, Ft. Wayne Scottish Rite and the American Legion.
Jim enjoyed gardening and giving away his produce to friends, family and neighbors, fishing, hunting, watching Pioneer sports, playing Euchre, and going to Bullshippers to spend time with friends.
Survivors include his children, Debb Stevens of Lucerne, Jan Layer (Rich) of Royal Center, Ken Stevens (Cindy) of Logansport and Michael Stevens (Karen) of Lucerne, sister, Lois Stevens of Logansport and grandchildren, Shane Layer (Tracey), Chris Layer (Missy), Jamie Hoover (Leander), Mindy Leal, James Stevens (Kerry), Melissa Smith, Michelle Roland and Carrie Coots (Brad). He is also survived by 25 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Mary Bruce.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the funeral home.
Graveside Services with military rites will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Zion Cemetery in Lucerne.
Memorial contributions can be made to Lucerne Zion Church.
