Janice L. “Jan” Groninger, 71, of Logansport, passed away unexpectedly at 2:10 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born on August 24, 1943 in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Raymond B. and Frances (Emrah) Hyman. Her father was killed in WWII and her mother died when she was 3 years old. She was then raised by her grandmother, Irene Emrah.
On September 10, 1961 she married Terry D. Groninger Sr. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2002.
She was a 1961 Logansport High School graduate.
Jan was a retired secretary and organist for Marocco Funeral Chapel where she worked for over 26 years. She also worked with her husband at Little Jack’s Grocery, Mordenti’s Grocery and Sixby’s Supermarket in Monticello.
She was a member of Southside Fellowship Church in Logansport. She was also a former member and past president of the Worthwhile Ex. Homemakers, Past Vice President of the Franklin PTA. Jan enjoyed playing the organ, giving a loving home to many cats over the years and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Terry Groninger Jr., of Logansport, and Sherry Sparks (Shannen) of Walton, grandchildren; Shaylee R. Sparks, and Shad W.C. Sparks both of Walton, brother, Ronnie Hyman of Lafayette, Aunts, Barb Klinck (George) of Logansport and Gillea Emrah of Ft. Wayne, sisters in law, Jean Shepard of Logansport and Nancy Grable (Ronnie) of Logansport and brother in law, Bill Johnston of Logansport. She was also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jan was preceded in death by sister-in-laws; Maryan Ropp, Betty Jo Johnston, Dorothy Garrison and Nancy Hyman, and brothers-in-law; Julian Garrison, Paul Ropp, and Bob Shepard.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Sparks officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
