John B. Hinshaw

March 4, 1924 — November 7, 2014

John B. Hinshaw, 90, of Royal Center passed away peacefully at 4:25 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2014 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 4, 1924 in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Dr. John A. and Josephine B. (Blickenstaff) Hinshaw.  On June 5, 1946 he married Mary L. Barr, she survives.

He was a graduate of Royal Center High School.

John served as a Staff Sgt. with the Anti-Tank Company 222 nd Infantry Regiment of the 42 nd Infantry Division in WWII.  He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European Theater Ribbon with three Battle Stars, the Victory Ribbon, German Occupation Ribbon and the Presidential Unit Citation for fighting on January 24 th and 25 th of 1945.  John also served in the United States Air Force Reserves for six years.

When he came home in 1946 he founded J. B. Hinshaw and Son Construction Company.  He also was a co-owner of Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home and Metzger and Hinshaw Monument Sales from 1967 to 2007.

He was a life member of American Legion Post #60, VFW Post #3790, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #66, National Rifle Association, a 50 year member of the Royal Center Masonic Lodge #585, Royal Center Lions Club, Order of Eastern Star, Ft. Wayne Scottish Rite, National Association Rainbow Division Veterans, Fraternal Order of Police #71 and the L’Anguille Practical Pistol League, FOE #323.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hinshaw of Royal Center, sons, John C. Hinshaw (Patrice) of Royal Center and Michael R. Hinshaw of Greenfield, grandchildren, Dawn Sharp (Chris) of Brownsburg, Hillery Taylor (Todd) of Logansport, Noah Hinshaw (Brooke) of Clermont, Ginger Pace (Robert) of Plainfield, Illinois, Kandi Hinshaw of Avon and John D. Hinshaw of Ft. Wayne.  He is also survived by 9 great grandsons and 1 great great granddaughter.

Services will be at 10:00  a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Harrison-Metzger- Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel with Pastor Richard Utterback officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the funeral home where there will be a Masonic Service at 7:15 followed by an Elks Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m.

Burial with Full Military Rites will be performed at Riverview Cemetery in Monticello.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and/or the Elks National Foundation.
