John Thomas Rinehart
July 23, 1927 — October 15, 2013
John Thomas Rinehart, 86, of Kokomo, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 10:05 p.m., Tuesday October 15, 2013 at Golden Years Residential Assisted Living Center in Kokomo.
Born on July 23, 1927, he was the son of the late J. Earl and Mary B. (Wagoner) Rinehart. John was born and raised on the family farm in Cass County, near Burrows, Indiana, and loved the outdoors, his family, hard work, and helping others.
John was a 1945 graduate of Logansport High School.
From March of 1946 to August 1947 he served in Japan with the U.S. Army. John went on to graduate with a BS in Civil Engineering from Indiana Technical College of Ft. Wayne in 1951.
On August 29, 1952, he married Peggy Ann Powlen and they raised 4 children, Pam, Mark, Kevin, and Brian.
For over 60 years, John had a career in engineering beginning as a Project Manager for James I. Barnes Construction Company in Logansport and later serving as a Branch Manager for Barnes in Springfield, Ohio. He also served as the City Engineer for the city of Logansport from 1960 through 1962. For 10 years, he worked for the Purdue Research Foundation representing owner's interests on major Public Works Projects in Indianapolis, Batesville, Logansport, Frankfort, Lebanon, Greencastle, Peru, and LaFountaine, Indiana.
John is survived by wife, Peggy Rinehart of Kokomo, daughter, Pam Sovik of Grove City, Ohio, Mark Rinehart (Christy) of Lebanon, Kevin Rinehart of Pendleton, and Brian Rinehart of Atlanta, Georgia, sisters; Deloris Mullin of Logansport, and Carol Chambers of Galveston, and brother, Dick Rinehart (Polly) of Delphi, and sister in law Phyllis Rinehart of Logansport. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren with another soon to arrive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers; Bob Rinehart and Don Rinehart.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Marocco a�" Rans Funeral Chapel in Logansport with Tom Clear officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
