John "J" C. Herrold

April 4, 1934 — February 5, 2015

John C. “J” Herrold, 80, of Grass Creek passed away at 10:02 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2015 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.

Born April 4, 1934 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Carl and Olive (Apt) Herrold. On May 14, 1954, he married Nada C. Willy. She preceded him in death August 26, 2006.

He was a 1952 Grass Creek High School graduate.

He was a lifetime dairy farmer and a 5 th generation farmer in Wayne Twp. Fulton County.

J was a former Wayne Twp. Republican Precinct Committee chairman for many years and former Fulton County Republican Chairman. He was also Wayne Twp. Trustee from 1979 – 2000.  He was a longtime member of Wayne Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. and served as Fire Chief for many years.  He was a charter member of the Wayne Twp. Lions Club, a 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star (formerly Kewanna and Rochester, now Royal Center #375) and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge (formerly Kewanna, now Rochester #79).

J was a lifetime member of Grass Creek United Methodist Church, where he also formerly served as a trustee.

He was an avid Jeff Gordon fan and he enjoyed arrowhead and mushroom hunting, going to flea markets and collecting elephant figurines.

Survivors include his children, Mick Herrold (Becky) of Twelve Mile, Mark Herrold (Kim) of Grass Creek, Mindy Douglass (Jeff) of Kewanna and Michelle Rigney (Dan) of Macy, sister in law, Janece Herrold of Grass Creek, 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by brother, Robert Herrold.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Grass Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor’s Chris Madison and David Sommers officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2015 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Burial will be at Grass Creek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and/or National Kidney Foundation.
