Joyce (Layer) Miller

Joyce Layer Miller, 80, of Royal Center passed away peacefully at 2:25 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2020 at her residence surrounded by family.

Born on August 15, 1939 in Cass County, she was the daughter of the late James and Mae (Blackburn) Swank.

She was a 1957 Lucerne High School graduate.

On November 17, 1957 she married Ernest Layer and he preceded her in death on May 2, 1999.  On April 28, 2001 she later married Robert Miller, he survives.

Joyce co owned and operated the Royal Center Locker Plant until her retirement in 2004.

She was a member of Baptist Christian Church in Royal Center.  Joyce enjoyed cooking, baking, taking care of her flowers and traveling.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Miller of Royal Center, sons, Steve Layer (Sheryl) of Logansport, Gary Layer (Patty) of Argos and Mark Layer (Jennifer) of Royal Center, step son, Mark Miller (Teresa) of Logansport, brothers, Gene Swank (Carol) of Galveston, Robert Swank (Bonnie) of New Jersey, Jerry Swank (Kathy) of North Carolina, sisters, Etta Byers of Camden, Ruth Swank of Logansport, and Nina Holle (Richard) Logansport, sister in law, Pat Hughes of Logansport, grandchildren, Kenny, Chris, Jessica, Sarah, Ryan, Jennifer, Benjamin, Jacob, Joshua, Micaela, and step grandchildren, Tony, Tara, Jami, Trent and Shaun.  She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren and 1 step great grandson.

She was also preceded in death by brother, John Swank and sisters, Donnabelle Hinkle and Katheryn Caldwell.

Services for Joyce will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Baptist Christian Church in Royal Center with Pastor Joel Sharp officiating.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2020 at the church.

Burial will be at Kistler Cemetery, Royal Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church and/or the American Cancer Society.
