Onward

Julia Alice Johnson Turnpaugh, 88, of Onward passed away at 7:27 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born on June 4, 1932 in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Roland and Mary Melvina (Hildebrand) Johnson.

On June 5, 1972, she married Tom Turnpaugh. He survives.

She was a homemaker and was a former clerk at the Onward Post Office.  Julia and Tom also formerly owned and operated Tom’s Place in Onward.  She was a member of Onward Christian Church and she enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband Tom Turnpaugh of Onward, children, Penny Angela Scheffer Crissinger (John) of Winamac and Roy Dean Turnpaugh of Peru, grandchildren, Karen Gourley (Labon), Cindy Shepherd (Dale), Rachel Scheffer, Matthew Scheffer (Natasha), Laura Beth Scheffer, David Nicholson (Felicia), Thomas Turnpaugh and Mary Turnpaugh, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by children, Myron Scheffer, Peggy Scheffer, Arthur Eugene Scheffer and Harvey August Scheffer, grandson, Robert Nicholson, 4 brothers and 6 sisters.

Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Star City West Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel, Royal Center.
