Lavonne “Sue” Sailors, 78 of Grass Creek passed away at 6:29 PM, Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born on August 20, 1946 in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late Harris and Dorothy (Hershey) Lease.
She was a Class of 1964 North Caston High School graduate. Sue received her Associates Degree from Ivy Tech in Accounting and Marketing. She attended Indiana State University after high school. She worked as a bookkeeper for Kaiser Fertilizer, and marketing and HR stints with Rochester Metals, and WROI. After raising her family, she set out in pursuit of her nursing degree, which she earned in 1996 from Indiana University South Bend, completing a lifelong dream. As a registered nurse, she worked for Logansport Memorial Hospital, Angels Of Mercy, and Woodlawn Hospital, where she retired in 2012.
On April 18, 1965 she married the love of her life, Dan Sailors, he survives. They met at Mr. Happy Burger in Logansport and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary next month. Growing up a farm girl, she took her love of rural living and raised her family with Dan in this community over the next 59 years.
She attended Community Church of Apache Wells in Arizona. Sue was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a 50-year member. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, scrap booking, crafts, sewing, taking care of her flowers and watching sporting events, especially Notre Dame Women’s basketball. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a nurse, she touched countless lives with her natural empathy and loving care. She enjoyed friends and neighbors here in this community, as well as her winter community in Mesa, AZ.
Survivors include her husband, Dan Sailors of Grass Creek, children, Christopher Sailors (Deborah) of Grass Creek, Tim Sailors (Michelle) of Grass Creek and Stephanie Herd (Jason) of Grass Creek, grandchildren, Christen Polomchak (Mikey), Carrie Martin (Ross), Emily Mappin (Levi), Ethan Sailors (Brittany), Shelley Molina, Keaton Ferverda, Noah and London Herd, sister in laws, Bonnie Sailors and Connie Bechtoldt and nephews, Scott Sailors and Dan Reutebuch. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Poppy, Maxwell, Weston, Oakley, Sarah, Raylan, Boyd, Andres and Justin. She will also be missed by her two beloved bichons, Toby and Teddy.
She was also preceded in death by infant brothers, Douglas and Larry Lease and brother in laws, Tom Sailors and Ron Bechtoldt.
Services including a Nurses Honor Guard Memorial will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Metzger Chapel, 123 E. Main St., Kewanna.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM. until the time of the service.
Burial will be private at Grass Creek Cemetery.
