Leonard J. Evers

Leonard John Evers, 93, of rural Rochester passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022 at home in Union Twp.

Leonard was born on February 14, 1929 in Riverdale, Illinois to John L. and Clara (Radtke) Evers. Leonard was a 1947 graduate of Kewanna High School. On July 1, 1951, he married Nancy Jo Whiteside at the Kewanna Church of Christ. After 68 years of marriage, Nancy passed away in December of 2019. Together they raised nine children.

Leonard attended Ball State University, was a farmer, former Winamac Steel supervisor and past school advisory board member. Other memberships include band parents group, Pinhook Grange and Lion’s Club in his younger years. He served as Republican precinct committeeman for several years.

Leonard was a “thinker” and could repair anything from jewelry, appliances, tractors, large machinery, furniture, car repairs, computers and much more. He loved to read newspapers and farm magazines and enjoyed a good nap in his recliner.  Farm auctions, a fish fry and dogs were other favorites.

Leonard is survived by daughters, Janet Yocum (CJ) of Rochester and Diane Evers of Noblesville, sons, Gary Evers of LaPorte, Bill Evers (Veronica) of Henrietta, NY., David Evers (Maria), Robert Evers, Brian Evers (Kandace), all of Rochester and John Evers (Mary Jane) of Indianapolis. He is also survived by one sister, Ruth, 18 grandchildren, numerous great- grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Rick in 1993 and sister, Clara.

A private graveside service will be held at Citizens IOOF Cemetery in Kewanna.
