Services for Lewis W. Jenkins, 89 of Royal Center will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Crooked Creek Christian Church, 691 W. 325 N., Royal Center.
He passed away at 11:28 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2009 at his residence.
Born on September 1, 1919 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Elga and Lola (Selders) Jenkins. On March 12, 1954 he married Doris J. Capes, she survives.
Lewis was a 1939 Royal Center High School graduate and he was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran where he served in the Atlantic Theatre and was a member of the Armed Guard.
He retired as a Locomotive Engineer for the Pennsylvania, Penn Central and Conrail railroads in 1980 after 30 years.
Lewis was a member and former trustee of Crooked Creek Christian Church, he was a member of the Royal Center Masonic Lodge 585, Royal Center Order of Eastern Star 375, Ft. Wayne Scottish Rite, Murat Temple Shrine Club and Logansport Shrine Club and the Royal Center Lions Club. He was also a life member of the Logansport VFW and a former member of the Logansport Eagles and Elks Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include his wife Doris J. Jenkins of Royal Center, daughter, Suzy Gray and husband Steve of Pensacola, Florida, daughter in law, Sadonna Weaver of Monon, grandchildren, Amy Faverty and husband Danny of Memphis, Tennessee, David Smith and wife Liz of Phoenix, Arizona, Jill Shannon and husband Cary of Monon, Kathryn Weaver of Monon and Lisa Gray of Indianapolis and great grandchildren, Ethan and Eli Shannon and Sarah Jane Faverty. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Lewis was also preceded in death by son, Richard Rick" Weaver sister Vineta Hasting an infant brother and two infant grandsons.
Pastor Crit Whitlock will officiate at the services and burial with military rites will be performed at Crooked Creek Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday 09/01/10 2009 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes Royal Center Chapel where there will also be a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Crooked Creek Christian Church.
