Lonnie Powell

September 4, 1918 — June 22, 2014

Lonnie Clay Powell, 95, of Logansport passed away at 5:24 p.m., Sunday, June 22, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born on September 4, 1918 in Clay City, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William and Lena (Brandenburg) Powell.  On February 14, 1938 he married Nellie P. Bruce.  She preceded him in death on February 24, 2013 after 75 years of marriage.

He attended Burrows Elementary School and Rockfield High School.

Lonnie was also a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII.

He was an Engineer for the Pennsylvania/Conrail Railroad where he retired in 1980 and he also had formerly delivered milk for Ray’s Creamery.

He was a member of Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church and a former member of Rockfield Christian Church.  Lonnie was also a former member of the American Legion.  He enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, bowling and watching basketball games.

Survivors include his children, James Powell (Cherrie) of Sellersburg, Joyce Likens, Rita Bonnell, Dennis Powell, Thomas Powell (Lisa) and Anthony Powell all of Logansport and brother, Leroy Powell of Logansport.  He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 sons in law, Phil Likens and Jerry Bonnell, daughter in law, Mary Powell and granddaughter, Roseann Powell.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the funeral home.

Burial with Military Rites will be conducted at Ever Rest Memorial Park.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
