Louie P. Schmidt

Louie P. Schmidt, 84, of Kokomo passed away at 2:45 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kokomo. Born on September 10, 1928 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Louis V. and Mary (Proctor) Schmidt. On August 14, 1949 he married Anita M. Austin, she survives. He was 1946 Logansport High School graduate. Louis was earlier employed by Pennsylvania Railroad and also had his own heating and plumbing business in Logansport. He later took up tool design as a profession and became employed by Logansport Machine. As they moved to Kokomo in 1960 he then became employed by Haynes International and Hoosier Broach both of Kokomo. He was a member of the Kokomo Elks #190 where he devoted much of his time as trustee, tyler and volunteer of many projects including the annual Elks picnic. He also later became a member of the Kokomo Eagles. There wasn't anything Louie couldn't do, small home repair and building his own garage at one time, anything mechanical including automotive of which included several father and son car projects. After his retirement he took on a restoration project of an Austin Healey. He enjoyed many drives to the country with it and which led him to become a member of the Austin Healey Club of America. Louie was an avid I.U. Basketball and Colts fan and he also enjoyed golfing but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a very giving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Anita M. Schmidt of Kokomo and son, Michael Schmidt (Carolyn) of Kokomo and their children, Scott Schmidt (Robyn) and their family, Gavin and Chloe all of Kokomo and Sean Schmidt (Renee) and their family, Cody and Tanner all of Walton, Susan Cunningham (Chad) and their daughter, Cassidy all of Birmingham, Michigan, and Tim Fenimore (Jennifer) and their family, Hannah and Zach all of Bradenton, Florida and daughter, Deborah Patchett and her children, Kimberlee Patchett, Scott Patchett and his son, Christopher and Blair Patchett all of California. He is also survived by special nephew, David Patty (Kathy) of Logansport and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Detrick and Sandra Miller and sister in law, Duanna Patty and her husband Burdette. His wishes were to be cremated with no visitation or services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America Inc., 158 West 29th St. 7th Floor, New York, N.Y., 10001-5300. Arrangements have been entrusted to Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services, 119 E. Market St., Logansport, Indiana.
