Marilyn Elizabeth (Browning) Moon, 92, of Rochester passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021 at Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka.
She was born on September 7, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois the eldest of 3 daughters to James Edward and Jessie Elizabeth (Tripp) Browning. In the 1940’s, the Brownings moved to Lake Bruce in Fulton County, where Marilyn met her future husband of 74 years, William “Bill” Moon. The Brownings later relocated to Winamac, Indiana and Marilyn graduated from Winamac High School Class of 1947.
Marilyn married William Floyd Moon in her parent’s home in Winamac on June 29, 1947. They resided in South Bend at 760 Garden Lane and had one son- James William Moon. Prior to the birth of her son, Marilyn was employed at Singer Sewing Machine Company and, in the 1970’s, worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. She was active in the Community of Christ (Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) hosting rummage sales, bake sales and cooking at their Camp Manitou, outside Marcellus, Michigan.
In 1977, after Bill retired from Bendix, they relocated to rural Fulton County, wintered for 20 years near Fort Ogden, Florida with friends and relatives and enjoyed various Dreamland Tours.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Bill Moon, son, James Moon and companion, Kimberly Horvath, brother-in-law, Donald Moon of Indianapolis, sister-in-law, Thelma Frettinger of Rochester, grandchildren, Shawn (Shanna) Moon of McDonough, GA., Drew (Kathy) Moon of Monticello and Emily Moon of Danville, great grandchildren, Ashley, Aidan and Nyla Moon of Georgia, Dylan and MacKenzie Moon of Monticello, Becky (Andrew) McIntyre and Maddox of South Bend, Dr. Daniel (Dr. Sally) Horvath of Indianapolis, special niece, Shirley Hoff of Greenwood, several nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors, Sue Hamman of Winamac and John (Julie) Mooney and Matt (Rachelle) Woods of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jessie Browning, sisters, Alma Krieg and Jamertta Borg Graham, father and mother-in-law, Charles M. and Elgie (Ipps) Moon, brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Genevieve (Felty) Moon, Donabelle and Dale Hoff, Hattie and Hugh Baldwin, Agatha and Ogden Marsh, Ethel and Jim Mathias, Charles and Lois (Culp) Moon, Emma (McDonald) Moon and Frank Frettinger, nieces and nephews, Richard Eads, Noralynn Moon, Dr. David Baldwin, Jim Mathias, Andy Anderson, Susan Frettinger, Ronald Moon and Raymond Casey.
The family would like to thank Hospice Home Health Care of Plymouth and the Center for Hospice Care (Raclin House) of Mishawaka, Dr. Matt Misner and ALL the dedicated staff who cared for Marilyn’s needs in her final time on earth, especially RN Elizabeth “Beth” Karas for her home visits.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Kewanna Church of Christ with Chaplain Wyatt Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Moon Cemetery in Fulton County.
Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Metzger Chapel in Kewanna has been entrusted with arrangements.
