Marion A. “Mort” Morgan, 90, of Lansing, Illinois passed away unexpectedly at 5:55 p.m., January 24, 2017 at Franciscan Health in Crown Point.
Born September 6, 1926 in East Chicago, he was the son of the late Howard H. and Mabel (Glidewell) Morgan. On November 21, 1951, he married Linda Byers. She preceded him in death July 2, 1992.
He was a graduate of Hammond Tech High School.
Mort was a WWII Army veteran serving as an Army Medic.
He was a 75 year member of the Garfield Masonic Lodge #569, the Chicago Graphic Arts Local #458 which is now the Teamsters Union.
Mort retired from The Chicago Sun Times where he worked as a photo engraver. Mort and his wife also formerly owned Granny’s Crazy Quilt Antique Shop in Crete, Illinois.
Mort was great storyteller who enjoyed camping, fishing, fixing things, farming in Kansas with one of his best friends, Dana Eikenberry who he has known for 85 years but most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter, Laura Bilik of Schneider, son, Ryan Scot Bilik (Nicole) of Crown Point, 4 other children, granddaughter, Magdalyn Rae Bilik-Papiez (Andrew) of Crown Point, 8 other grandchildren, great grandchildren, Tyler Stone, Sydney Stone, Ryan Bilik II, Anastasia Bilik, Morgan Papiez and Harper Papiez and 2 other great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Whiting United Methodist Church, 1920 Clark St., Whiting, Indiana with Pastor Lester “Pete” Ward officiating.
