Mary Ellen Gunter

Mary Ellen Gunter, 95, of Logansport passed away peacefully at 4:55 a.m., Sunday, December 31, 2023 at home surrounded by family.

Born on May 9, 1928 in Alger, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John and Fern (Tippett) Hurlburt.

On December 5, 1953 she married Donald “Bob” Gunter.  He preceded her in death on March 2, 2014.

Mary was a retired supervisor in the cafeteria at Fairview Elementary School.

She was a former member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church and enjoyed puzzles, crocheting and reading.

Survivors include her children, Donald Gunter (Heather) of Lucerne, Karen Smithers of Norman, Oklahoma, Rebecca Sterling (Steve) of Royal Center, Candace Hopper (Tim) of Logansport and Sheila Sanders (Greg) of Deland, Florida.  She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Services will be at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Marocco Chapel. 

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
