Mary Ellen Nies, 89, of Logansport passed away peacefully at 7:50 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Pleasant Escape Assisted Living in Logansport.
Born May 7, 1925 in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Ella (McLochlin) Fox. She married Basil Nies on May 6, 1946 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lucerne. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1992.
She was a Pulaski High School graduate.
Mary Ellen was a homemaker and a member of All Saints Catholic Church. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She was very blessed with a loving family and many friends. Mary also enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens in her earlier years.
Survivors include her children, Larry Nies (Barbara) of Royal Center, daughter, Marilyn Lantis (John) of Mitchell and Joe Nies (Sue) of Lake Bruce, brothers, Walter Fox of Valparaiso and Art Fox (Sis) of Winamac, grandchildren, Christopher Nies of Lafayette, April Sjoholm (Eric) of Noblesville, Jennifer White (Jared) of Orlando, Florida and Josh Nies of Winamac, great grandchildren, Taylor and Reis Sjoholm of Noblesville, Olivia, Hayden, Carley, and Elyn White of Orlando, Florida, MaKinzie Nies of Kewanna and Caleb Nies of Winamac, sisters in law, Betty Nies of Royal Center, Peggy Nies of Logansport and Alice Fox of Kewanna. She was also survived by several nieces, nephews and a very dear friend, Joyce Huffman of Logansport and her extended family at Pleasant Escape.
She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ralph, Gene, Don and Loran Fox and great granddaughter, Brianna Nies.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Dominic Petan officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Marocco – Rans Funeral Chapel where there will also be a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church and/or Southern Care Hospice.
Burial will be at South St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pulaski.
