Mary Margaret (Burke) Scheetz

Mary Margaret Burke Scheetz, 93 of Lucerne, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at her residence. Born on June 15, 1918, in Peru, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Ellen (Holland) Burke. On April 19, 1941 she married Leo J. Scheetz and he preceded her in death on December 25, 2002 after 61 years of marriage. She was a Peru High School graduate. Mrs. Scheetz was a retired homemaker, nurse, and lifelong resident of Lucerne, Indiana. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lucerne throughout most of her lifetime. Mrs. Scheetz was a devote Catholic who said the rosary every night. She received her RN from Good Samaritan School of Nursing at Kokomo in 1940. Survived by her children, L. Patrick Scheetz (Janet) of East Lansing, MI; J. Michael 'Mick' Scheetz (DeEtte) of Carmel, Mary Ellen Scheetz Deck (Tom) of Ellijay, GA; P. James Scheetz (Maria) of Granger and Grass Creek, Rita Ann Scheetz Coe of Indianapolis; Rose Marie Scheetz of Walton, Kathleen T. Scheetz Ross (Mike) of Logansport; her grandchildren, Dominique M. Scheetz Stuart (Kevin) of Alexandria, VA; Michael P. Scheetz (Gina) of East Lansing, MI; Danielle M. Scheetz of Arlington, VA; Steven D. Scheetz (Beth) of Coppell, Texas, Michael B. Scheetz (Melanie) of Carmel, Clay A. Scheetz (Lainey) of Indianapolis, IN; Ryan Morris (Amber) of Fishers, Ashley Morris Hurley (Ryan) of Carmel,G. Andrew Bent (Lora) of Terre Haute, Rebecca Bent Roberts (Doug) of Indianapolis, David Coe of Bloomington, Benjamin L. Coe of Indianapolis and fourteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Vic Tully of Peru, IN; brother-in-law, Robert Hill of Pensacola, Florida and sisters-in-law, Monica Scheetz White of Logansport, IN; Eva Scheetz Colip of Granger, IN; Miriam Brogan Scheetz of Lucerne, IN. She was also preceded in death by infant sons, Edward and Joseph Scheetz, brothers, Patrick Burke, Edward Burke, Rev. John C. Burke, CSC, Francis Burke, Jerry Tully and Thomas Tully, and sisters, Margaret Byers, Rose Wiedenhoft, and Eleanor Hill. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 415 South Logan Street, Kewanna, IN, with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Ann Catholic Cemetery near Grass Creek. The family will receive friends at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center, on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the Rosary prayed at 7 PM and also from 9 to 10 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012 at the funeral home. Those desiring to make contributions may make them to St. Ann Catholic Cemetery Fund, 415 South Logan Street, Kewanna, IN 46939, and/or St Vincent De Paul Society, 208 South 5th Street, Logansport, IN 46947 in memory of Mrs. Scheetz.
