Nathan Lee Cottrell, 31, of Chicago, formerly of Royal Center, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in a work- related accident.
Born September 19, 1982, in Lafayette, Nathan was the son of Richard J. and Nancy M. (Davis) Cottrell.
Nathan was a 2001 Pioneer High School graduate where he was a member of the Pioneer Marching Band that was a State Finalist each of his 4 high school years. He also played on the Pioneer Baseball Team and participated in the National Honor Society.He became a member of the Royal Center United Methodist Church as a youth.
Nathan graduated from Purdue University in December of 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. While at Purdue, Nate joined the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
Nate worked at Alpha Baking Company for 8 years.Prior to his death, Nathan served as the Head Engineer at the Lyndale Facility.
Nathan was an avid baseball fan and he enjoyed target shooting and golfing. Music inspired his life, and his life moved to the beat of his own drum.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and Nancy Cottrell of Royal Center, fiancé, Laura Oliveira of Chicago, formerly of Massachusetts, brother, Jason W. Cottrell of Mulberry, grandmother, Virginia Cottrell of Rossville, aunt and uncle, Joanne and Terry Treece of Little Rock, Arkansas and cousins, Ben Treece and Amy (Bill) Leritz and their daughter Sophia.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard Cottrell, maternal grandparents, William H. and Ella Kathryn Davis and by his beloved dog, Mocha.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 1, 2014, at the Royal Center United Methodist Family Life Center, 210 S. Chicago St., Royal Center, IN. 46978
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Royal Center United Methodist Family Life Center. Pastor Kevin Drane will officiate.
Graveside Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2014, at Fair Haven Cemetery in Mulberry.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in memory of Nathan L. Cottrell to the Paws for Cause of Cass County or any Humane Society. Contributions may also be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
