Owen E. McVay, 90, of Rochester passed away peacefully at 11:52 a.m., Monday, February 3, 2014 at Wynnfield Crossing in Rochester surrounded by his family.
Born on January 24, 1924 in Burnettsville, he was the son of the late Lewis and Gladys (Meeker) McVay. On April 26, 1944 in Burnettsville, he married the love of his life, Betty Arlene Easterday with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2002.
Owen was a 1943 Grass Creek High School graduate.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in WWII and Honorably Discharged in 1946.
Owen was a former Dairy farmer and was a retired Insurance Underwriter for over 35 years with MONY Insurance Company. He also bought and sold real estate. Owen attended The Cross in Rochester and was a former member of Baptist Christian Church in Royal Center.
He and his wife Arlene enjoyed traveling and had accomplished visiting every state except for Alaska and Hawaii. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was proud that he was able to take them all to Disney World. He was also a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Rochester and the National Life Insurance Association.
Survivors include his children, Darla Kumler (Robert) of Rochester, Cheryl Whittington of Logansport, and Donna Riddle (Duane) of Rochester, grandchildren, Bonnie Kumler of Logansport, Chuck Kumler of Rochester, Jennifer Rotz (Ben) of Indianapolis, Heath Camp of Logansport, Heather Hawkins (Dale) of Lafayette, Charles Owen Riddle, Andrew Riddle and Jeremiah Riddle all of Rochester, great grandchildren, Cole, Gage and Cowen Kumler all of Rochester, Abby and Jack Rotz of Indianapolis, Sara and Shelby Hawkins of Lafayette, and Cheyanne, Carley and Jaziah Camp all of Logansport, and former son-in-law, Mike Camp of Logansport.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael L. McVay, one daughter, Ronda Camp, one son-in-law, Lee Whittington, brothers, Galen, Everett and Kenneth McVay and sisters; Lois Scotney and June Larimore.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2014 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel with Pastor John Branch officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial with Military Rites will be performed at Royal Center Cemetery.
