Phillip L. Wills

Phillip Lee Wills, 76, of Camby, IN passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at Kindred Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, IN.

Born on December 6, 1939 in Grass Creek, he was the son of the late Marley “Dick” Wills and Lela Wills.

Phil was a 1957 graduate of Grass Creek High School and graduated in 1962 from Purdue University where he played basketball on a full scholarship.

He is a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and continues to hold an unbreakable state scoring record.

He was a Captain in the U.S. Army who served three years in the Vietnam War earning a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Phil was a longtime manager and owner in the trucking industry. He attended Grace Church in Camby.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Jean Wills of Louisville, KY, daughters Allison Wills of Granite City, IL, Shannon (Bart) Burton of Louisville, KY, Lora Flaharty of Hudsonville, MI, Elizabeth (Tom) Hodges of Monterey, CA, and grandchildren, Megan Flaharty, Ryan Flaharty, Hannah Voss, Hailey Voss, Alexander Phillip Wills and Dustin Hodges.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles Wayne Wills and Marvin Wills, sister, Eva (Ernie) Hipsher and grandson, Riley Matthew Voss.

A Celebration of Life Service for Phil and Full Military Rites will be performed at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel with Pastor David Sommers officiating.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Amercian Alzheimers Association, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and/or the Children’s Hospital Foundation, Norton Healthcare Pavilion, Att: Riley’s G.R.A.C.E. Foundation, 315 East Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel.
