Richard W. Allen, 58, of Star City passed away unexpectedly 7:35 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.
Born May 5, 1952 in Winamac, he was the son of the late Ralph W. and Lena R. (Newport) Allen. On June 18, 1972 in Pulaski, he married Shelia A. Butler, she survives.
He was a 1970 Winamac High School graduate and a graduate of Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis.
Rick was a farmer and a former Parts Manager at Case Power and Equipment in Winamac for 25 years. He had also formerly worked at Berkshire Implement in Royal Center for 2 years and Tri County Builders for 10 years. He had also been a representative of Juice Plus+.
He was a member of Pulaski Presbyterian Church, Redman Lodge in Monticello and a member of the Indiana Trailriding Association. He was also a former member of Odd Fellows Lodge in Winamac. His hobbies included Arabian horses, gardening, fishing in Wisconsin, making wine, working on the farm, trailriding, camping and mentoring his grandson, Collin. He was also an amateur photographer and he had also had his pilotA�A�?A�?A�s license. Rick was also formerly active in Competitive Mounted Orienteering where he was a 1000 point achiever.
Rick was also very Patriotic and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Shelia A. Allen, daughter, Amanda M. Allen, grandson, Collin Wayne Allen, brothers, Dean E. Allen and wife, Barbara, Thomas C. Allen and wife, Rebecca, Timothy R. Allen and wife, Christine, all of Star City. He is also survived by nieces, Carmen Snyder of Burnettsville, Janette Moore of Andrews, Anita Allen of Minnesota, Shannon Davis of Monticello, Shelby Allen of Lafayette and nephews, James Allen of Minnesota, Craig Allen of Star City and Scott Allen of Monticello, sister in laws, May Vance and husband Collins of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Edwina Cook of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, Wanda Rice and husband Ronald of Brownstown, and brother in law, Paul H. Butler. He was also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by nephew, Christopher Ralph Allen.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 23, 2010 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center and burial will be at Pro Cemetery, Headlee.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday August 22, 2010 at the funeral home and also one hour before the time of service on Monday.
