Robert J. Alma

Robert J. Alma, 89, of Royal Center passed away at 1:50 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital in Lafayette.

Born on June 4, 1924 in White County, he was the son of the late William and Stella (Rutherford) Alma.  On July 22, 1944, he married Dorothy M. Hoover.  She preceded him in death on December 20, 2000.

He was a U.S. Army – Air Corps Veteran serving in WWII.

Robert was a farmer for 60 years. He enjoyed family get togethers, fishing, traveling, camping and quilting with his late wife Dorothy.

Robert was a member of White Oak United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his sons, Steven D. Alma (Deloris “Lorie”) and Randy D. Alma (Trena “Jeanie”), both of Royal Center, brother, Chuck Alma of Monticello, sister, Ann Horney of Beecher, Illinois and sisters in law, Frances Hoover of Star City, Elinor Alma of Lebanon, Vicky Alma of Burnettsville and Lottie Alma of Yuma, Arizona.  He is also survived by grandchildren, Karrie Barber (Tim) of Logansport, Keith Alma (Ashley) and Doreen Ehler (David), both of Royal Center and Jason Alma of Burnettsville, great grandchildren, Courtney Barber, Tyler Barber, Thomas Ehler, Ryand Ehler, Lincoln Alma and Jon Alma.

He was also preceded in death by an infant son, brothers, Roy Alma, John Alma and Ralph Alma, half brother, Louie Hastings and half sisters, Hazel Ward and Mary Gus.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2014 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center chapel with Pastor Ryan Lewellen officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the funeral home.

Burial with Military Rites will be performed at Pro Cemetery, Headlee.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pro Cemetery and/or the American Kidney Foundation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center.
