Robert E. “Bob” Kloenne, 87, of Logansport passed away at 5:22 a.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.
Born on January 18, 1927 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Harry Kloenne and Mildred (Goltry) Emmons. On November 15, 1980 he married Betty M. Galbreath Markley.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War where he drove for a Lt. Colonel.
Bob was a member of the Bridge Gang on the Pennsylvania Railroad, he fired the steam engines on the C&O Railroad and then was a fireman on the CSX Railroad where he retired in 1987 after 41 years of service. He and his wife Betty also formerly owned and operated Karen’s Tracks to Beauty and the Korner Shoppe Bridal for over 25 years.
He was a member of the VFW #3790, American Legion Post #60, Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, CSX Capitol Connections, United Transportation Union, C&O Historical Society, and the Railroad Club of Chicago. Bob lived and breathed all aspects of trains and he enjoyed sharing that same passion with his nephews, Doug and Jason. He also enjoyed his model train collection, attending auto races, visiting local Fire Departments and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Betty M. Kloenne of Logansport, stepdaughters; Sue Young (Len) of Winamac, Kathy Webb (David) of Mansfield, Tennesse, Karen Pratt (Timothy) of Logansport, and Carol Crist of Winamac, stepgrandchildren; Pierre Young (Becky), Crystal Young, Tonia Babb (Dick), Sonia Herrick (Jeff), Tracy Bobbitt (Rick), Cassia J. Duke (Jason), Monika Webb, Christopher Wade (Misty), Ambyr Wade, Cara Dauenhauer (Josh), and nephews, Doug Kloenne of Peru and Greg Kloenne of Kokomo. Bob is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by brothers; Ernest “Fred” Kloenne and Harry “Jr.” Kloenne, and step son-in-law, Rex Crist.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rex Lamb officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the funeral home.
Burial with Military Rites will be performed at Winamac Cemetery.
