Ruth Maxine Winn Hougland, 99, passed away on February 24, 2018 from complications of a second stroke in Brownsboro Norton Hospital, Louisville, KY. She passed peacefully in her sleep.
She leaves her son, David Hougland and wife, Karen; and her daughter, Lynne Smith and husband Lee. She had seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, John Hougland, in 1996 and her son, Stephen Hougland in 2007, her father Paul R. Winn, her mother Marguerite Winn, her sister Martha Winn Mitchell, her sister June Winn Crimmins, and her sister Rebecca Winn.
Born in Lucerne, Indiana, Ruth spent most of her adult life in Indianapolis, where she raised her three children. She and John retired to Belle Vista, Arkansas for 20 years where they played golf, played bridge, traveled extensively and enjoyed retirement. Later after John passed away, she returned to Indianapolis to be near her sister, Becky Winn, and brother, Paul E. Winn. She lived independently until the age of 98 when she had her first stroke and moved into an assisted living facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. Later she moved into an assisted living facility in Louisville, Kentucky to be near David, Karen and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Long known for her sense of humor, zest for life, and competitive spirit she will is missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the charitable foundation Magnolia Springs Impact Life Fund, 13600 Lagrange Road, Louisville, KY 40245, where she enjoyed her last days.
