Stephen L. Fair, 82 of Sterling, Alaska, formerly of Walton passed away on November 25, 2022.
Born on November 11, 1940, he was the son of the late Lowell and Mary Grace (Munson) Fair.
Originally from Walton, Stephen graduated from Tipton Township High School in 1959 and attended Barber school in Indianapolis.
Steve worked for his brother in law, Jim Beechy, at his Barber Shop in Walton before moving to Alaska in 1969. He barbered for years before getting a job at Alaska Dept of Transportation retiring after 21 years.
Priority in life was his family and friends. He loved spending as much time as he could with them. After retiring, he loved to drive which meant long trips from Alaska to Indiana, Wisconsin and other states to visit family and friends when he could.
His sense of humor kept everyone laughing all the time. He was a giver and would do anything he could to help someone and was loved by everyone.
He loved being outdoors doing something all the time, working on his property, hiking, riding his four-wheelers and snow machines and tinkering with his vehicles.
He was a motor head about vehicles, tractors, planes and trains. He could tell you what year a car was and what engine was in it and any changes with that vehicle over the years. It didn’t matter how old or new a vehicle was, he was right 99% of the time.
Steve enjoyed going to car shows and watching his late grandson, David, race vehicles on dirt tracks when he could. It was nothing for him to get in his truck and just take off driving for the day. If you were with him, you never knew where you might end up, maybe just looking at scenery, wildlife, a glacier, a lake or maybe a hiking a trail.
When inside he loved to read, watch documentaries or comedies, anything for a laugh. He loved to draw his monster trucks and cars for us girls when we were young and then for all the grandkids, which we will all treasure.
His obsession with food shocked everyone. How someone could stay so skinny and eat like he did! It was nothing for him to eat 2 or 3 plates of food and then eat a plate full of dessert. Then the next thing you know, he would get out his ice cream and put as much chocolate syrup on it as there was ice cream. He could wipe out a half gallon in one sitting!
His other obsession was sickness. If anyone mentioned being sick or something hurting, he would get out his Mayo Clinic book and study all night trying to figure out what was wrong with you and to make sure he wasn’t going to get it.
He kept us all entertained and laughing up until the end and will be missed by everyone.
He is survived by daughters, Lesia Frazier (Dave) of Logansport, Melanie Hollon of Soldotna, AK. and Sarah Zimmermann (Jake) of Fremont, WI., sister, Joyce Beechy of Walton, grandchildren, Angela Edwards (AJ), Kokomo, Eric Brown (Ashley), Walton, Lorena Richie (Chris), Waxahachie, TX., Chelsee Mansfield, Midland, TX., Ashley Hollon, Sterling, AK., Adara Hollon, Post Falls, ID., Seth Mansfield, Fremont, WI., Lucy Hollon, Soldotna, AK., Zach Zimmermann, Fremont, WI., Parker Zimmermann, Fremont, WI., Esme Fair, Soldotna, AK., and great grandchildren, Mason and Cooper Edwards, Kokomo, Jayla, Adalyn and Leah Brown, Walton, Caiden, Myra and Eleh Ritchie, Texas, Jaxin Mansfield, Texas and Aleska “Aly” and Winter Hollon, Alaska.
