Thayle Richards passed away gently Friday, September 21, 2012 in Union, KY while with her two daughters, Lisa Richards of Columbus, OH and Dana Richards Skulan of Union, KY. She was married to Joseph H. Richards for 52 years and was widowed in November 2007. She is survived by her two daughters, son-in-law Dan Skulan, granddaughters Lena and Laura Mei Skulan, step-son Douglas and his wife Leigh Richards and grandchildren AJ and Amy Richards. Laura Thayle Wallace Richards was born in Bryan, TX but later graduated from Paducah High School, Paducah, KY where she attended several reunions over the years including the 55 year reunion held in 2009. She had a lifelong love of nature as reflected in her many donations to environmental preservation causes as well as making nature the subject of much of her art work. She was a talented painter, seamstress, crafter and appreciator of all arts and spent several years as a docent for the Columbus (OH) Art Gallery. She will be most remembered for finding the humor in every situation and for the courageous spirit she maintained throughout her life. She is much loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Union Presbyterian Church, 10259 U.S. Rt. 42, Union, KY 41091. Visitation from 2-4pm, services at 4pm and reception following. An additional service will be held in Indiana at the Grass Creek United Methodist Church, 7219 Indiana 17, Grass Creek, IN 46939 on Sunday, October 14 at 12:30 pm with a burial ceremony immediately following at the Kewanna IOOF Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Grass Creek firehouse. Memorials can be made to Union Presbyterian Church or Grass Creek Methodist respectively -- in lieu of flowers if preferred. Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel is handling the local arrangements.
