Services for Virgil E. Fauser, 84 of Lake Bruce, formerly of Dyer will be held at 11 a.m. E.S.T. Monday, August 18, 2008 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel.
He passed away at 8:20 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 3, 1923 in Hammond , he was the son of the late Earl and Matilda Louise (Doepping) Fauser . On October 19, 1942 he was married to Ruby J. Burgess, she survives.
Virgil grew up on Beal Street in Hammond where he graduated 8th grade from St. Paul Lutheran School and was a 1941 graduate of Hammond Tech High School.A� He was a self employed carpenter who was a 60 year member of the Carpenters Local Union 599, in Hammond. A�He attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Lake Bruce and Free Methodist Church in Griffith.
Virgil enjoyed relaxing on the lake, building bird houses, fishing and playing Pinochle. At Christmas, he loved playing Santa Claus for his family and friends. Before retiring, Virgil and Ruby enjoyed traveling during the winter to places such as Hawaii and Spain.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby J. Fauser, Lake Bruce, one son, James Fauser & his wife, Mercedes, of Dyer, A�two daughters, Betty Burton & her husband, Thomas of Lowell and Sharon Johnston & her husband, Gregory, of Dyer, one sister, Vernetta White of Hammond, 4 grandchildren, Maria Fuentes & her husband Geraldo; Frank Fauser & his wife, Karen; Eric Burton& his wife, Hope and Rachelle Blumenthal & her husband, Kenneth; 10 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. E.S.T., Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel.
Rev. Steven McPeek will officiate at the services.
There will be additional calling hours 11 to 1 p.m., C.S.T. , Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue in Schererville with a service being held at 1 p.m. C.S.T. A�Burial will follow in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville.
