Services with Military Rites for William J. Burgess, 81, of Lake Bruce will be held at 2 p.m. (EST), Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, 123 E. Main St., Kewanna .

He passed away 8:38 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac. Born February 9, 1927 in Shelby, he was the son of the late David F. and Elsie (Pierce) Burgess. On Feb. 22, 1947 he married, Madaline RuthA�Bakeman and she preceded in death on January 31, 2006.

William was a WWII Navy Veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Carpenters Union 599, Hammond, and a lifetime member of V.F.W. and American Legion, Hammond. He also served as Building Commissioner for the City of Hammond from 1976 to 1984. His hobbies included fishing and playing the Mandolin.

Survivors include his son Bruce O. Burgess and his wife, Judy of Monticello, step daughters, Bonnie Lemaster of Griffith and Nancy Burns of Ava, Missouri, brother, Kelly Burgess of Aix, Indiana, sister, Ruby Fauser of Kewanna, 6 grandchildren, Christy Bozic (Chris), Lisa Mason (John), Nathaniel Burgess (Kelly), Linda Nolan (Randall), Brian Lemaster (Chris) and Tina Douglas, and numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

Bill was also preceded in death by a daughter, DeEtta Bailey.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, 123 E. Main St., Kewanna.
