William "Bill" G. Helvie

William G. “Bill” Helvie, 57 of Royal Center passed away unexpectedly at 10:00 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018 at his residence. Born on January 20, 1961 in Logansport, he was the son of Glen Helvie and Margaret Bender.

Bill was a longtime exhibitor at festivals and other events for many years. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.
Bill attended Center Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Cheyenne Helvie of Royal Center, companion, Cheri Foley of Royal Center, mother, Margaret Killion of Peru, brothers, John Helvie of Peru, Ted Helvie (Kaifeng) of Royal Center and David Helvie (Julie) of Marcell, Minnesota, step mother, Kathleen Helvie of Logansport.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his father, Glen Helvie, and sister in law, Madelyn Helvie.

There are so many people that believed he joined the lord too early. The Center Presbyterian Church had a huge impact on my dads life, he loved attending and thought a lot of Monty Adams and everyone else that attended. Dad loved talking to people and enjoyed being himself. He was in a lot of pain but didn’t stop him from being the kind hearted person that he was. My dad was the most inspiring person in my life. He taught me how to drive, camp, fish, trap, be respectful, and to travel around and sell belts and other merchandise. My father meant a lot to me and I’m very unhappy with this whole situation. Dad and I had a lot of friends in common and they help me get through this rough time. I love you,dad. I hope you’re resting in peace.

““Big Bill” My neighbor, our friend, feels like it was just yesterday he was inviting me to go to the fairs with him, or coming over with food he grilled. Even hearing him every morning doing his shout. Bill always seemed like he was enjoying life to the fullest. The man was not only a good neighbor, but a great friend growing up with, it’s going to be quiet around the house without his presence. “If my brother, Bill, liked you he would do anything for you. Although he was in a lot of pain, he was willing to help with automotive and mechanical repairs whenever he could. One time when I was too busy to get my yard mowed, he came over and mowed it all by himself (A big yard) for free. I also remember him helping me clean the mobile-home I
bought and helping me get it ready to move into. He was very good hearted and he had a lot of friends. He loved the outdoors (like all of the Helvies). He made friends easily and he had an outgoing personality. He never met a stranger.”

“Our dad taught all of his boys a love and respect for the outdoors. One thing all of the boys had in common growing up was fishing, especially trot lining in the Wabash River. It was a summer ritual with all of the Helvie boys. Billy especially enjoyed the event and spent many nights camped down on the river running the lines. It was a wonderful way the 4 brothers to grow up. Thank you for all of the memories. I will miss you, brother. “

I appreciate everyone that comes and even the ones who weren’t able to make it. My dad was a great man who enjoyed the company of other people. He will be missed. Services for Bill will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 5, 2018 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Monte Adams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Burial will follow at Metea Cemetery.
